Health Minister Malcolm Chisholm today announced the appointments of Neena Mahal, William Sutherland and Terrance Currie as non-executive members of Lanarkshire NHS Board.
The appointments are for four years from April 1 for Neena Mahal and Terrance Currie and for three years for William Sutherland.
Mr Chisholm said:
"I am delighted to announce these appointments. Each member has already demonstrated, through the selection process, a clear understanding of the issues being faced within NHS Lanarkshire, and each will bring energy and enthusiasm to the Board."
Mr Lex Gold, Chair of Lanarkshire NHS Board, said:
"I am delighted to welcome our new non-executive members to Lanarkshire NHS Board. They have a commitment to serve the people of Lanarkshire and are people of real ability and high calibre. They bring an important range of skills to NHS Lanarkshire. These are exciting and challenging times for the NHS and I wish them well in their new roles."
Lanarkshire NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Lanarkshire region. To meet those needs it has an annual budget of over £553 million.
Mrs Neena Mahal is a freelance associate delivering training and research in the fields of equality, personal and organisational development. She has a background in education, careers advice and community development work.
She is a Trustee Member of the BBC Children in Need Appeal and a Trustee of National Museums of Scotland, for which she receives no remuneration.
Mr William Sutherland is Director of Personnel and Deputy Secretary at the University of Strathclyde and a former Chair of the British and Irish Universities Personnel Association. He is a law graduate, a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has held senior management appointments in both public and private sectors. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr Terence Currie is the Director of Small Business Services with Scottish Enterprise. He is also a Board Member of New Lanarkshire Ltd, which promotes the Lanarkshire Civil Pride Campaign. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared ) to be made public. None of the appointees have been involved in any political activity within the last five years.
It is expected that as a Member they will contribute around eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,160.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with guidance issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Public Appointments (OCPA). A statement of validation from the Independent Assessor appointed by OCPA has been obtained. This confirms full compliance with the OCPA Code of Practice at each stage of the appointments process.
