Staff receive festive visit from Deputy Minister
30/12/2003
Staff and patients at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary received a festive visit from Deputy Health Minister Tom McCabe today.
The Minister took the opportunity to thank all NHS staff for their hard work this year and wished patients well for a speedy recovery.
Mr McCabe said:
"While most people in Scotland have been spending time with their families, opening presents and enjoying some festive cheer this week, it's worth sparing a thought for those who aren't quite so fortunate.
"Hundreds of people across Scotland have had to spend the holidays in hospital, meaning that, in turn, hundreds of NHS workers have been called upon to maintain the excellent level of care that the service provides while the rest of us have been enjoying our turkey.
"Those unfortunate enough to be here have been well cared for and have been made to feel as comfortable as possible, and staff should be commended for their hard work.
"Staff in Accident and Emergency, who I have visited today, far from being quieter over the holidays, have probably been even busier dealing with the increased pressure that the party season and harsh winter weather can bring.
"I'd like to thank staff here at the Royal Infirmary and all across Scotland for their tireless effort over the course of the year, and particularly the festive season."
