Accountant in Bankruptcy goes West
04/12/2003
Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) is to relocate from Edinburgh to Ayrshire as part of the Executive's relocation policy.
AiB's main responsibilities are to supervise the process of sequestration in Scotland and to act as trustee in bankruptcy when appointed by the Court.
Deputy Justice Minister Hugh Henry said:
"Moving the AiB from Edinburgh confirms the Executive's determination to disperse public sector posts, and the benefits they bring across Scotland. The relocation of AiB to Ayrshire will bring a much needed jobs boost to the area, with around 100 jobs located in the area as a direct result of this decision.
"While some staff may move with the Agency, I expect the majority of the new workforce will be recruited locally. This will be good for the AiB and good for Ayrshire.
"The Executive is committed to the decentralisation of public sector bodies, providing cost-effective services and jobs across the whole of Scotland. Ayrshire will provide an excellent base for the AiB to carry out its work."
Gillian Thompson, Chief Executive of AiB, said:
"We have taken steps to ensure that the relocation is handled as efficiently as possible. Current staff, whether relocating with us, or choosing to remain in Edinburgh, will be given all the assistance possible.
"Plans are already in place to ensure that the Agency will continue to function to the high standards expected of it both during, and after, the move.
"I am sure that staff recruited from the local area will find jobs with the Agency to be rewarding and challenging, and that the Agency will continue to improve as a result."
Currently located in George Street, Edinburgh, the Agency will move to Ayrshire by the end of 2005, once a suitable location and accommodation has been identified.
