Scottish soldiers remembered
09/11/2003
Scottish soldiers in all conflicts have been remembered today.
Paying tribute at the Royal British Legion Remembrance Sunday Parade and service at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, First Minister Jack McConnell said that the conflict in Iraq adds extra poignancy this year.
Jack McConnell said:
"On Remembrance Sunday we pay tribute to all those who have died serving their country. Scotlandwill never forget the sacrifices they made to safeguard democracy in this country, and create a better and more peaceful world.
"This year, tragically, we also remember brave Scottish men and women who have been killed in the conflict in Iraq, pray for their friends and families and hope for the safe homecoming of those who are still facing great dangers.
"We are all grateful for the courage shown by so many people in so many places. They preserve the security of our country and defend the freedom we can sometimes take for granted."
