Edinburgh district fiscal appointed

Mr William Gallacher, the new district fiscal for Edinburgh today received his commission from Scotland's senior Law Officer, the Lord Advocate, Colin Boyd QC.
William Gallacher will hold a commission for Edinburgh sheriff court district and will act as the personal representative of the Lord Advocate on a day-to-day basis in relation to the investigation and prosecution of crime and the investigation of sudden, suspicious and unexplained deaths in Edinburgh .
He will work closely with Lothian and Borders area procurator fiscal, Douglas Brown, who has full management and budgetary responsibility for the Lothian and Borders area.
Colin Boyd said:
"I am delighted to announce the appointment of William Gallacher as District Fiscal for Edinburgh. With the support of the dedicated and professional staff at the Edinburgh office, William will take forward the work started by Frank Mulholland to tackle crime and improve the service that the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service provides to local communities."
Frank Mulholland, the former District Procurator Fiscal has been appointed to Crown Counsel.
William Gallacher - Edinburgh District Fiscal
William Gallacher joined the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service as an apprentice in 1980, and has worked in offices throughout Scotland. He served as Head of the High Court Unit at Crown Office from 1995, until he was appointed Procurator Fiscal for Falkirk in 1999.
