Good VIBES for green business

02/06/2003

Enterprise Minister Jim Wallace today welcomed plans to recognise Scotland's most environmentally astute businesses.

The Minister was speaking as the fourth annual Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) competition was formally launched.

The VIBES awards recognise and reward the efforts of Scottish businesses to improve their environmental performance. They are open to any business which demonstrates that it has become more environmentally focused, while delivering greater business efficiency.

Mr Wallace said:

"The Scottish Executive is committed to promoting a successful and sustainable Scottish economy.

"The VIBES awards are an excellent way of demonstrating to companies that environmental awareness can go hand in hand with a successful and growing business.

"Good environmental practice can so often mean being more efficient, reducing waste and cutting costs - and so impacting positively on the bottom line.

"Moreover, Scotland has the opportunity to lead the way in linking environmental and business opportunities, not least in areas such as renewable energies where we can become a world leader.

"These awards really show that being green doesn't mean being in the red."

For further information on VIBES contact Amanda Liddiard or Audrey Cousin on 0141 333 0557.
