Satisfied customers for Historic Scotland
07/03/2003
A survey of visitors to Historic Scotland properties has found that 98 per cent were satisfied with their experience.
The findings were part of the agency's annual survey programme that was carried out at 20 properties throughout Scotland, including Edinburgh Castle, during June, August and September last year.
More than 3,000 visitors were interviewed by System Three, an independent research company.
Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Murray said:
"Listening to what our visitors think is vital for a progressive and responsive tourism industry.
"Historic Scotland has clearly got a lot right since it started monitoring visitors in 1991. Since that time, these visitor surveys have helped Historic Scotland to improve visitor facilities, interpretation and marketing of its historic properties.
"I am particularly pleased that the impact of staff was included in the survey. It recognises that it is not enough to have dramatic scenery and stories to tell, but the way we welcome visitors also adds to a first-class tourist experience."
The levels of visitor satisfaction is the highest recorded since Historic Scotland began its monitoring programme in 1991.
It stems from the following indicators:
- Visitors who stated their visit was better than expected
- Visitors who found the staff at Historic Scotland properties were very helpful
- Visitors who were unable to suggest any improvements to the property they were visiting
- Visitors who stated that the amount of information provided at properties was about right
- Visitors who were 'very satisfied' with their overall visit to the property - the overall satisfaction rating was 98%
