Better bus facilities for Dundee
18/02/2003
Bus passengers in Dundee will benefit from better facilities for bus services in the city, Deputy Transport Minister Lewis Macdonald said today.
The Minister was speaking as he visited the newly refurbished bus depot in Dundee to see the recent improvements on site first hand.
The Deputy Minister said:
"I am pleased to be here in Dundee today to see the improvements that are being made to public transport in the city thanks to the close working partnerships between bus operators, local authorities, and the Scottish Executive.
"We want to attract more people to public transport, increasing access and providing better quality services.
"In November 2002, the Scottish Executive awarded £6.7 million from our Public Transport Fund for local transport projects in Dundee. This is allowing Dundee City Council to improve bus travel through the 'Smart Bus' scheme which will deliver new and up-graded bus stops and bus shelters as well as real time information and CCTV and better buses.
"The improvements made here by Travel Dundee will complement that investment by providing better maintenance facilities for buses in the city."
