New Board Member for VisitScotland

The Director of Corporate Affairs at the Hilton Group, Alex Pagett, has been appointed to the Board of VisitScotland.

He has also worked for the Bank of Scotland and Stakis and has wide experience of both the tourism and communications industry.

Tourism Minister Mike Watson said:

"I am delighted that Alex Pagett is to be the new member of the Board of VisitScotland for the next three years.

"He brings significant senior experience from the major corporate sector. He will be a valuable amabassador for the Board at UK level at the corporate and government levels."

Mr Pagett has not been politically active in the last five years and does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.

As Board member, he will receive £7,857 per annum (subject to review) based on a time commitment of two days a month.

His appointment has been amde in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA) Code of Practice.

He succeeds Sheena Kitchin who served on the Board for four years. She completed her term on September 30 and did not seek re-appointment.

VisitScotland is the lead government agency for tourism. It received a grant of £40.6 million from the Executive in 2001-2002.

Its main aim is to help maximise the economic benefit of tourism to Scotland. Its corporate objectives include leading industry, providing strategic guidance, increasing visitor expenditure, increasing seasonal spread of expenditure, developing tourism outwith the main tourism areas, and increasing competitiveness by promoting quality and value for money.
