New Chair of Scottish Screen

Ray Macfarlane has been appointed as the new Chair of Scottish Screen.

Scottish Screen is the national agency for film in Scotland. It has a budget of £2.6 million from the Scottish Executive. It also has responsibility for distributing Lottery Funding.

Welcoming the appointment, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport Mike Watson said:

"I am delighted to appoint Ray Macfarlane to this important post. As an existing board member, she will bring continuity and a wide range of relevant experience to the post.

"I look forward to working with Ray - and the rest of the board - to ensure that the full potential of Scotland's screen industry is realised."

Ray Macfarlane has been the Senior Director of Market Development at the Bank of Scotland since 2000. Previously she was Company Secretary at Scottish Enterprise rising to Managing Director in 1994. She is a qualified solicitor , educated at the University of Glasgow.

Ms Macfarlane has been a member of the board for Scottish Screen since 1997. She reported no political activities and holds no other Ministerial appointments. She is a member of several boards not responsible to Scottish Executive Ministers: Scottish Institute of Sport, St Mary's Music School Trust and LINC (Local Investment Network Company) Scotland.

Ray Macfarlane will take up this unpaid appointment for a three year term on 1 September 2002.

James Lee held the chair of Scottish Screen position for four years until May 2002.
