Guide to marketing of organic food
20/06/2002
Practical advice for small food and drink companies and farmers considering moving into the production of organic products is contained in the publication A Guide to the Marketing of Organic Food, unveiled today at the Royal Highland Show.
Environment and Rural Development Ross Finnie said:
"I welcome the publication of this Guide. It combines market information on the organic food sector and the various routes to market whilst publicising skills and tips on marketing best practice.
"Our Forward Strategy for Agriculture highlights the importance of understanding and meeting customer and consumer requirements. This document addresses those requirements and stresses why any business enterprise must be market-focused and market-led.
"The decision of farmers or processors to go down the organic route is for their commercial judgement. If they are considering entering this market the Guide will provide an important and informative insight and help avoid common pitfalls."
As part of the Advisory Activity programmes for which the Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department provide funding, the Scottish Agriculture College was commissioned to prepare the guide.
