Strategic Rail Authority appointment

A new post of Stakeholder Relations Manager for the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) will play a key role in liaison between the SRA and the railway industry in Scotland.
Deputy Transport Minister Lewis Macdonald today welcomed the appointment of Mike Connelly who job it is to ensure the effective delivery of rail passenger services in Scotland.
Speaking at an informal reception hosted jointly by the SRA and the Scottish Rail Industry Partners, Mr Macdonald said:
"I welcome the SRA's recent decision to appoint a Stakeholder Relations Manager based in Scotland. The Scottish Executive enjoys a good relationship with the SRA and this appointment provides a focus to build on what we have already achieved.
"Mike Connelly's wealth of experience will help to establish firmly the SRA's vital contribution to the development of rail in Scotland.
"Managing the relationship between the SRA and all stakeholders in the railway industry in Scotland is vital if we are to achieve a common aspiration - a railway in Scotland fit for the 21 st century."
Prior to this appointment, Mike Connelly was with the Trades Union Congress in London.
The Scottish Rail Industry Partners is an informal working group involving Scotrail, Railtrack Scotland, Strathclyde Passenger Transport, GNER, Virgin Trains, British Transport Police, First Engineering and the Rail Passengers Committee Scotland.
