Kincardine road proposals go public
27/09/2001
A public exhibition to outline proposals for the Kincardine Eastern Link Road gets underway in Kincardine today. Exhibitions will also be held in Alloa and Airth ahead of the publication of draft Road Orders.
The exhibitions, which also show progress with the design of a new crossing for the Forth, will be attended by Scottish Executive officials and consultants and will be held at:
- Kincardine Community Centre on Thursday, 27 September and Friday, 28 September
- Alloa Town Hall on Monday, 1 October
- Airth Castle Hotel, Dunmore Suite on Tuesday, 2 October.
The exhibition will be open to the public at 1.00pm on Thursday, 27 September through to 8.00pm and on all other days from 10.00am to 8.00pm.
The Eastern Link Road is proposed as a new wide single carriageway around the east of Kincardine. It will remove Fife traffic from Kincardine village and provide significant benefits to local residents by reducing congestion, noise, accidents and pollution. Current traffic levels in Kincardine result in unacceptable levels of congestion, noise, pollution, accidents and community severance.
BACKGROUND:
- The Eastern Link Road would reduce traffic levels on the North Approach Road by 40% and on the A985 in Kincardine by over 80%.
- The Eastern Link Road would be the first stage in the proposed improvements around Kincardine. Design work is being taken forward on a proposed new crossing upstream of the existing bridge that would remove Alloa-bound traffic from Kincardine.
- Design and assessment work on the Eastern Link Road has been accelerated in advance of the proposed new crossing of the Forth upstream of the existing bridge at Kincardine in order to bring the benefits of improved road safety and a reduction in traffic congestion sooner to Kincardine. A new signal controlled junction at the northern end of the existing bridge is designed to reduce queuing in Kincardine village as far as is practicable before a new crossing is built.
- The construction timetable depends on public reaction to the proposals. The earliest opening date for the Eastern Link Road is the end of 2003.
- Invitations to attend a preview of the public exhibition have been sent to local MSPs, councillors and their officials, and community council leaders.
