Energy scheme a boost for Scottish business says Alasdair Morrison
28/10/1999
Deputy Minister for the Highlands & Islands and Gaelic, Alasdair Morrison, today launched Loan Action Scotland, an energy saving initiative which will allow small companies to adopt energy efficiency measures in the workplace.
Loan Action Scotland is the first major initiative launched by the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland. The scheme provides interest free loans to Scottish companies for the installation of energy efficiency measures. Through reducing business costs, the programme aims to promote environmental and economic sustainability.
Speaking in Glasgow after the launch of the Energy Saving Trust's Loan Action Scotland, Mr Morrison said:
"Our aim is to offer SMEs in Scotland high quality advice and ongoing support on energy and environmental matters. By working together with the Energy Saving Trust and locally based organisations, we can help small businesses to become more competitive and make a much more positive environmental impact.
"I am delighted to launch this innovative interest free loan scheme for energy efficiency measures in smaller companies. The programme is open to SMEs (companies employing up to 250 employees) headquartered in Scotland who can apply for loans from a minimum of £5,000 to a maximum of £25,000.
"I am pleased that this announcement comes so early in the lifetime of the Scottish Parliament. It underlines our commitment both to Scottish business, including small businesses, and to our environment. It also shows that we ARE developing solutions tailored to meet the needs of Scottish companies who want to profit through better energy efficiency.
"We will be looking to small businesses, both new and existing, to provide the economic growth and employment that will underpin a vibrant and inclusive Scotland moving forward into the new millennium. A Scotland where enterprise flourishes, where there are job opportunities for all, and where our very special environment is protected and enhanced. A sustainable Scotland."
