Two Men Indicted for Murder of Surjit Singh Chhokar

Andrew Alexander Marshall Coulter (18), Wishaw, and David Shields Montgomery (22), Motherwell, have today been indicted for the murder of Surjit Singh Chhokar on November 4, 1998, in Wishaw.
Coulter is also charged with theft by house breaking and uttering (passing a false document) and Montgomery has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The case is to call for trial at Glasgow High Court at the sitting commencing August 16, 1999.
BACKGROUND
1. The Chhokar family has been advised.
2. Editors will note that proceedings remain active within the meaning of the Contempt of Court Act 1981.
