Major roadworks on A725 Bellshill Bypass
21/04/1999
The Scottish Office advise motorists that major roadworks are due to commence on Friday April 23, 1999 for eight weeks on the A725 Bellshill bypass between the A8 and the M74.
A contraflow will be set up for a period of three weeks close to the junction of the A725 and A775 at Bellshill interchange. Serious delays are expected at peak periods and drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
An alternative route is available for drivers wishing to travel between the A8 and M74 via the M74 and M73 Motorways.
Following this work, various slip roads will be closed for four weekends at Orbiston Interchange (junction A725 and B7070). Local diversions will operate.
No work will take place during the holiday weekend of May 28-31 and the weekend of June 4-6 to avoid the National Gardening Show at Strathclyde Park.
BACKGROUND
1. The works involve the waterproofing of the deck of the A725 Little Parkhead Railway Bridge and the resurfacing of the slip roads at Orbiston Interchange and are valued at £300,000.
2. The contractor for the scheme is RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd of Glasgow. The works have been designed and will be supervised by North Lanarkshire Council as part of the Clyde Local Authority Consortium.
