Crown meets Chhokar family

ISSUED ON BEHALF OF THE CROWN OFFICE
Mr Frank Crowe, Deputy Crown Agent, today met with representatives of the family of Surjit Singh Chhokar at 1030 hours in the Crown Office, Edinburgh.
The family were advised that the investigation relating to the death of Surjit Singh Chhokar is continuing. A report of the meeting, which lasted for one hour, will now be prepared and passed to the Lord Advocate. After the meeting Mr Crowe, was handed a petition by the Chhokar Campaign for Justice.
The Crown's decision on what, if any, action it will now take will be based on the evidence available and will be made objectively. A decision relating to two other persons accused of the death of Mr Chhokar is expected to be reached by the middle of May.
BACKGROUND
The case is still active under the terms of the Contempt of Court Act for the two men.
