£190,000 EU Grant for SQBLA

Congratulating the Scottish Quality Beef and Lamb Association (SQBLA) on the latest grant of £190,000 under the EU quality beef programme, Scottish Agriculture Minister Lord Sewel said:
"This is further recognition from Brussels of the quality of the beef we produce in Scotland. Coming on top of £288,000 awarded in April this is welcome additional funding for SQBLA.
"The earlier award allowed SQBLA to launch a TV advert which was screened recently. This latest award will help towards further promotional activity."
BACKGROUND
1. European Quality Beef operates under Commission Regulation (EEC) No 1318/93 and provides for the promotion and marketing of quality beef as defined in the regulation.
2. The Meat and Livestock Commission is the applicant body and their application incorporated the bid from SQBLA for promotional activities.
3. The total amount agreed for Great Britain is just over 2 million ECU (about £830,000) SQBLA is expected to get around 280,000 ECU (about £190,000) based on a grant rate of 60 per cent.
