FOI requests from journalists

Information relating to Freedom Of Information (FOI) requests made by journalists to the Scottish Executive (from 1 May 2005 - 4 July 2005)

Every request for information which the Scottish Executive receives is handled in accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act. In general, requests for information are handled routinely and are not all recorded or counted centrally. However some requests are recorded centrally.

Requests for information are treated, for the purposes of the Act, as applicant "neutral" as to source and purpose of the request. Public authorities are not, therefore, required to monitor sources of requests. However, as a body with an interest in the implementation and use of the Act, the Executive is monitoring, where it is notified, the sources of requests to the Executive. We do, therefore hold information on centrally recorded requests from journalists where the applicant has clearly identified him or herself as coming from a journalistic organisation.

In light of the above background, the attached annex below sets out the requests made to the Scottish Executive where the request was centrally recorded between the 1st May 2005 to 4th July 2005 and was made by a journalist who clearly identified him or herself as a journalist in the request.
