Director of Energy and Climate Change - David Wilson

The work of the Directorate is central to the Scottish Government's Purpose of increasing sustainable economic growth. Our specific role is to help make the transition to a low carbon economy for Scotland, which can meet our Sustainability target, and the statutory commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. In doing so we will also make a major contribution to the Government's Productivity target through the prosperity of our energy sector - as well as contributing to several of the national outcomes.

Purpose

The Directorate is responsible for helping deliver a low carbon society, with sustainable economic growth and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Responsibilities

  • Working nationally to enable Scotland to become a prosperous and resilient low carbon economy, with secure, affordable and sustainable energy and water supply and reduced carbon emissions
  • Working internationally to promote Scotland's ambitious climate change, clean energy and energy efficiency programmes
  • Working locally to support individuals, businesses and communities make sustainable choices which deliver economic advantages for Scotland
