The Directorate considers and makes decisions and recommendations on a range of planning and environmental matters on behalf of Scottish Ministers.

Purpose

Our work supports the Scottish Government's purpose of creating a more successful country, with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Determining planning and listed buildings appeals or reporting to Ministers in called in or recalled cases
  • Examining strategic and local development plans
  • Reporting to Ministers on applications for consent under the Electricity Act 1989
  • Reporting to Ministers on compulsory purchase orders
  • Reporting to Ministers on proposed road schemes
  • Reporting to Ministers on Core Path Plans and paths orders made under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003
  • Determining appeals to Ministers against decisions made by SEPA under the environmental legislation governing pollution prevention and control, the water environment and waste management
