The Directorate covers Planning, Architecture & Building Standards Divisions and this sets out the Directorates key deliverables and intended improvements for the business year 2011/2012.

Purpose

To contribute to the SG's central purpose - increasing the rate of sustainable economic growth - through legislation, policies actions and decisions on architecture & place making, building standards and planning.

Key responsibilities

  • Development, implementation and monitoring of legislation and policy
  • Provision of guidance and advice on policy/procedure/technical issues
  • Responding to casework - Ministerial/Parliamentary, planning applications & appeals
  • Leading and co-ordinating the implementation of e-Planning
  • Monitoring environmental assessment for Ministers' interests
  • Promoting high quality design and place making
  • Sponsorship of A+DS and provision of grant aid to PAS
  • Contribution to a range of cross-cutting issues
